Activities in the third year (planning)

In the third project year the work concentrates on two topics. The first topic includes “The Influence of Economic Globalization on Shopping Habits” and “The Globalization of the Working World”; material for a bilingual teaching unit is put together again. The second topic includes “Travelling in Europe” and ”How to Behave in Europe”; the students make a travel guide “Europe in 16 Days” including a section “How to Behave in Europe”.

After introductions and the formation of bi-national pairs the project work starts with “The Globalization of Shopping Habits”. The students do research in their countries on the range of goods for sale and the shopping habits of young people. An international teachers’ team provides instructions in advance. Results are published on the website and discussed in the national project groups and between bi-national pairs.

As in the previous years a project meeting takes place in the first third of the project year (teachers and students, probably in Bucharest). The following activities are planned in detail, problems are discussed and alterations made, if necessary. The students present their first results and prepare (in international groups) the work to be done in each national project group.

An international teachers’ team prepares the next topic: “Globalization of the Working World – advantages and problems”. The students deal with locational factors, working conditions, etc. and the impact of these developments on culture and language. They work in their national project groups and in smaller international groups. A bilingual teaching unit is made from the results and materials that the students collected. This teaching unit is published on the website and sent to all the partner schools. Again, all the results are discussed in the national project groups and between bi-national pairs. The students are encouraged to contact a regional business / company with international connections.

At each school one student group makes a travel guide for a two days’ visit in their country. The students provide foreign visitors with insights into the culture of their country (from the students’ point of view). The results of all participating countries are published on the website. In addition, a guide book “Europe in 16 Days” is produced.

Furthermore, at each school, one student group puts together the most important (generally accepted) rules of behaviour in their country. These are published on the website, compared and elaborated on. The results are integrated into the guide book “Europe in 16 Days”.

There is also an exhibition of all the results at schools and, if possible, in public buildings and the results are published in the local/regional media.

In the last third of the project year there is a project meeting with teachers and students (probably Landskrona or Stuttgart) where the results of the project work are presented. The participating teachers and students evaluate the project.

All the results of the three-year-project work can be found on the website and are made available on DVD to schools and other parties who are interested. If possible, parts of the work are published in the local media.

An extended evaluation (heads of schools, school community,…) marks the end of the project.
